Do You Need Reputation Rehab
How to Rebuild Your Reputation
at Work and with Friends
Let’s be real—we all have a reputation, whether we think about it or not. It’s the track record we leave behind, based on how we show up every day at work and in life. Your habits and behaviors define how people see you, and that directly impacts relationships and opportunities. Are you known for handling pressure, meeting deadlines, or being a reliable teammate? Or… not so much?
Here is the deal:
Your Trust Credit Score™ is a reflection of how trustworthy people find you. Just like your financial credit score, it highlights your strengths and shows where you might need to level up.
Take Jeanette, for example. She’s the one who gets to work early, all set to teach a class. The room is prepped, workbooks printed, and tech tested. Plus, she always shows up looking sharp with a big smile and a positive attitude. Jeanette has built a solid rep for handling the details and delivering—no wonder people trust her to get things done!
Then there’s Rosie. Where is she? Oh, right—she called in again, running late because she’s dealing with a FedEx delivery. Her project’s unfinished (again) and she’s missed the first hour of staff meetings for the third time this month. Ghosting on emails and staying disorganized? That’s Rosie’s thing. She’s got a reputation too—but for all the wrong reasons.
Robert Downey Jr. too!
Even famous people have had to go through reputation rehab. Take Robert Downey Jr., for example. Early in his career, he struggled with personal challenges, including being arrested for a drugs, which cast a shadow over his acting ambitions. But with perseverance and focus, he turned his reputation around, eventually becoming one of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood. His story shows that no matter how bad things get, it’s possible to rebuild trust and credibility.
What defines a good reputation?
So, what defines a good reputation? People like Jeanette show accountability, consistency, and engagement. They bring positivity and don’t just meet expectations—they crush them. Their Trust Credit Score™ is high because people know they can count on them.
On the flip side, behaviors like avoiding accountability, procrastinating, and being constantly disorganized (hello, Rosie!) will tank your Trust Credit Score™ and damage your rep.
⚡️ The good news? You can totally rehab your reputation and build back trust.
Rosie Chose to Change
Finally, Rosie’s unprofessional behavior caught up with her. After two PIP (Performance Improvement Plan) meetings, she got serious about working on her Trust Credit Score™. She started showing up on time, finished her projects, and even helped out teammates who were struggling. Her Trust Score shot up, and so did her reputation.
Want to rebuild your own rep? Start by taking ownership of mistakes, staying engaged, and setting realistic goals you can meet—or better yet, exceed. And let’s not forget: a positive attitude can seriously boost how people see you.
What do you want your reputation to be around the office?
🔍 Here’s a quick exercise: Think about five people you work with. What stands out about their behavior? Now ask yourself: “What’s MY reputation around the office?”
